I went to Court lees after it was closed down and renamed Hays Bridge Scool. the names above ring a bell, now I wonder?

Mr Hawkins, Mr Edwards ? maybe some one could contact me to go over other aspects of this school

I was at court lees for 2years 6 mnths late 1960 to 1963.Mr edwards was a great guy well respected by all the boys,even though he was not my housemaster he always had time to ask how i was doing.Mr hawkings,ford,osborne,and cook were also good men.That mr daly was an animal yet he was never mentioned in the report and alongside him was garlick a beast and they gave me the cane in the shower room 6 strokes from each of them and shame on the staff that sat outside at three in the morning while it was going on.Dont read me wrong i deserved the cane for absconding but i did not deserve to be treated like a dog.When i was captured daly took me on a 3mile run hitting me all the time,and when we got back he put me in a cold shower beat around the legs and stomach then they caned me amimals,after that i was made to scrub the cloisters on my hands and knees.Still all in the past now the only thing is they are probably all dead so i cant even write them a letter to say what pigs they were.

I was an inmate at Court Lees for a period of 2 years, 1958-1960. One master that I remember as being a very kind and understanding man was Mr Edwards. We knew him as ‘maggot’, I think it was in reference to his shock of pure white hair. He taught me a lot about building and plumbing, some I still remember today. Court Lees was a strict school but during my time I did not find it brutal. I was caned on several occasions, primarily for fighting or smoking. I must admit that the cane seemed to be the preferred method of punishment above all else but if we misbehaved we expected it. One man that was brutal but was hardly mentioned was a Mr Daly, PT instructor. This man used his fist’s on many of the boys sometimes just for talking. He beat me whilst in the shower once, made my nose bleed, he then wouldn’t let me leave until the bleeding stopped, wicked man.

I was at loaningdale in the 60s. Its regime made me the decent person I am. Indeed John Wilson therapeutic helpd many boys.
