To Beat or Not to Beat?

To Beat or Not to Beat? That is the Question.

@        That’s not the question at all. I don’t know anyone who would want to beat their children now. The question is about smacking.

#          But what’s the difference? Whether you beat or smack, you are still assaulting the child.

@        Beating is using a stick, or a tawse in Scotland. Smacking is using your hand. It’s personal – not hitting the child with a weapon. It can hurt you as much as the child.

#          Do you honestly think it hurts the adult as much as the child? Physically the adult is bigger and tougher, and uses his hand – or her hand – as the weapon on an undefended bit of the child.
